Should You Get A Chest Or Upright Freezer?

Ah, a question that just about everyone asks themselves when looking at freezers. Lets talk about some things you should bear in mind. Chest freezers have a larger footprint (take more floor space) than uprights, sometimes twice as much space. You decisionwill surely be affected with this, if you are living in an apartment.

You shouldn't stack your stuff on top of chest freezers because it is not a convenient thing to do. The idea of stacking stuff on the freezer will look very bad to you after you have to remove all sorts of junk you have been piling there for weeks, just to get to one frozen pizza you wanted to eat on one sunny day.

But the good news is that a small freezer will cost you less in the start, will save more energy while it works, and will give more space for you to use for whem compared to upright freezer. The problem appears when they are fully loaded and you need to find something in there. A super-frustrating, muttering-inducing search through a packed chest freezer is not fun. This happened to me several times, although I have marked every item with care. More than once I've had my feet in the air while my numb fingers shuffled through frozen peas and beef roasts. It's one of the most brutal experiences appliance can give you. In freezer space no one can hear you scream. Except for my wife who stands there behind me, hands on hips, laughing with delight.

And uprights still have some major advantages over chest freezers. I already said this, but you really will be able to fill them easier then chest freezers and you will find your items much easier. You won't have to spend entire day just to find that frozen pea you bought in the store 4 weeks ago. The good news is that there are many upright freezers with auto defrost feature. Defrosting is a task we usually need to do once per year and we need to do it with most chest freezers, but bear in mind that manual defrosting is very long and tedious task do to.

Whichever you decide for, make sure you take good care of it. If you do, it will last you for many years.
